Bucking The Slot Machine Odds

92 year old wins jackpot fortune....twice!
A 92 year old Las Vegas resident has defied odds of over 10 million to one - twice - to win a total of $25.7 million on IGT's Megabucks slot machine in land gambling, the company announced in a statement this week.
Players face odds of at least 10 million to one of hitting such a bonanza, IGT reported and to hit the huge multi-millions grand prize twice in a lifetime is unusual to say the least.
Elmer Sherwin (92) is the exception that proves the random rule - he's just hit the Megabucks slots for $21.1 million at the Cannery, having previously taken $4.6 million from the game in 1989, playing at the Mirage.
Sherwin told IGT execs that he had wanted to win the award for a second time ever since his first major win. "I'm glad I finally hit; I've been trying to do it again," he said, adding that he planned to surprise his family with the news.
"I want to see the looks on their faces when they hear," Sherwin said, noting that he soon plans to try for a third jackpot!
The Megabucks machine, developed by International Game Technology, is a dollar slot machine with a building jackpot that requires a $3 bet to hit the top prize. The jackpot resets at $7 million after a jackpot is won and begins to build again until someone lines up the Megabucks symbols on the machine again. Wins are paid in annual installments or a lump sum. |
